Three Ways to Make Banana Peel Fertilizer
1. Liquid Banana Peel Fertilizer
Supplies:
- Banana peels
- Glass jar with lid
- Water
Instructions:
Step one: Place banana peels in a jar. Be careful not to overload the jar.
Step two: Fill the jar with water and close the lid.
Step three: Let banana peels soak for about a week. Once they’re done soaking, remove the peels. Compost your banana peels, or reuse them using another method below!
Step four: Use the fertilizer to water the base of your plants. It may take a week or two to start seeing results, so be patient!
2. Dried Banana Peel Fertilizer
Supplies:
- Banana peels
- Scissors or knife
Instructions:
Step one: Cut banana peels into small squares, about an inch wide.
Step two: Dry banana peel pieces. Lay them directly in the sun, or use an oven. If using an oven, keep it at a low temperature with the door ajar.
Step three: Bury dried banana peels in the soil around your plant’s roots. Happy gardening!
3. Powdered Banana Peel Fertilizer
Supplies:
- Banana peels
- Scissors or knife
- Food processor, coffee grinder, or blender
- Optional: 3 eggshells, Epsom salt, and spray bottle
Instructions:
Step one: Cut banana peels into small squares, about an inch wide.
Step two: Dry banana peel pieces. Lay them directly in the sun or use an oven. If using an oven, keep it at a low temperature with the door ajar.
Step three: Using a food processor, coffee grinder, or blender, grind dried banana peels into a powder.
Step four: Mix the powder into your soil. Potassium power!
Optional: Grind three eggshells into powder. Combine with four tablespoons of banana peel powder and one tablespoon Epsom salt. Put the mixture into a spray bottle, and fill to the top with water. Shake until the powder and salt are dissolved. Spray this mixture at the base of your plants to promote healthy growth!
