Paint Palette Cookie Recipe with Jacqui Saldaña from Baby Boy Bakery

With our Little Passports World Edition subscription my daughter Mila traveled to France this month! This was especially exciting for her as she has dreams of visiting the Eiffel Tower one day. We spent a long time soaking in the fun France facts that Little Passports delivered this month and learned that France is actually famous for the Fine Arts. France is home to many famous artists, great painters, artisans, and sculptors. With the World Edition subscription this month, Mila received an easel, canvas, and paint to create her own French inspired painting. Which got me thinking … Wouldn’t it be cute (and delicious) to make our own paint palettes that we could eat in the end? I’m known for baking, France is known for the fine arts. Let’s combine the two!
Listen, I kept things simple with store bought cookie dough, but kept things fun with a cookie cutter and sweet colorful glaze. This idea would actually be a fun idea for a child’s birthday party, as you can use any cookie cutter shape to make these your own. The sweet glaze comes together in seconds and can be made into any color using food coloring. Take a look at how fun these are and be sure to share this idea with your friends!
Happy Painting Friends!

Paint Palette Cookies

Ingredients:

  • Store bought cookie dough
  • Cookie cutter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. heavy cream or milk
  • Food coloring

Directions:

Step one: Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.
Step two: Grease a baking sheet with cooking spray. I’ve found that a 15×10 in size baking sheet works best here.
Step three: Press store bought chocolate cookie dough into the greased baking sheet. TIP: Leave about a 1/4 inch of room for the dough to expand while baking.

Step four: Bake at 350 degrees for 13-15 minutes or until golden and crisp on the outside and soft (+ a bit gooey) on the inside.
Step five: Once the cookies are cooled, use a cookie cutter to cut into shapes.

Step six: For the colorful glaze or cookie “paint,” whisk together the powdered sugar and heavy cream or milk in a small bowl until smooth. If you find that the glaze is too thin then add more powdered sugar. If the glaze is too thick add a bit more heavy cream or milk. Once you get the perfect consistency, divide the glaze into a few different smaller bowls.

Step seven: Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix. Use a small spoon to decorate your paint palette cookies. Fun Tip: Use a clean paint brush to have fun and “paint” the glaze on the cookie before eating!
